There is often a divide between my “vision” and my “skills”. One of my artistic skills is to draw photo-realistic portraits, yet I never felt I was personally connected with my drawings… until I started this series. These charcoal portraits feature different members of my family, the people closest to me. By working countless hours with their image, I got to reflect on our connection. I was able to spend time with them in ways I best remembered them. And ultimately, it allowed me to combine my “vision” and “skills” into a meaningful and personal series.
